Airbnb legal saga

In August 2018, I was delisted by Airbnb based on a false report of an unsecured weapon in my home. In November, not having had any success in addressing the situation, I filed lawsuits against Airbnb and the guest in question. Here I will collect the pertinent information on this legal saga.

I felt right at home.

Jeannette was the perfect host. Since I was traveling by myself and was in Baltimore for the first time I wanted to stay somewhere that I could chat with the host and feel at home. Jeannette and her home were exactly what I was hoping for! I felt right at home. The neighborhood can be a bit spotty, but Jeannette tells you what streets to stick to. In the morning I got a great cup of coffee and lox bagel sandwich at a cafe just one block north, then walked down Ann St. to the water and checked out the more touristy part of Fells Point. My son and I spent a quick a night and part of a day; even though a quick trip, we felt right at home at Jeannette’s. Even though we got there later at night than expected (and in the rain!), her directions for entering/parking were easy to follow and she welcomed us like family. The Vivaldi suite was super-comfortable (bed very much so!) and bathroom clean and well-equipped. She provided everything a person would want for their stay in a new city. The room was good for me, I stayed in the Shrine (the basement room) as I requested for it since I never lived in a basement so wanted to experience that. It was well maintained, has a kinda hipster vibe to it, only the height of the roof was a factor for me, it was barely my height 5’9” so I had to walk around carefully always in the mind that I might not hit the roof or some other pipe. Anyways, stay was good. Thanks again Jeannette.

I appreciated proximity to John Hopkins Hospital (12 minutes away).

As advertised with copious notes, I was able to get in late, and appreciated the quiet room (& its large size) and ease of the neighborhood’s proximity for walking to John Hopkins Hospital (12 minutes away). There was a bodega across the street and 2 new restaurants nearby at the Jefferson Sq at Washington Hill, and a CVS. The place was very clean and had 2 cute cats. Jeannette was wonderfully welcoming and briefly showed me around the neighborhood in the morning. A lovely stay.

I stayed at Jeannette’s place while attending a conference at the Marriott Waterfront, which was within easy walking distance.

The neighbourhood is beautiful, and I found a number of great cafes/restaurants/shops within 10 minutes by foot. I only met Jeannette’s pets briefly, but they all have a lot of personality! Jeannette herself was very friendly and accommodating as a host. The bed was really comfortable, the room was spacious, and the private bathroom was a definite plus. I didn’t really have any issues with this, but one thing to note is that there was at times noise from the street in the late hours (people and cop cars, though this was on a weekend holiday) and early morning (cars, garbage collection) if you’re a very light sleeper (though Jeannette offers a pair of ear plugs).

The area is nice and close to the really hip area of Fells Point full of bars, coffee shops, things to do, etc.

Jeannette was great and extremely helpful. I asked for a fan to feel more comfortable and she got one right away. She gave me pointers of places to go drink and eat. She was also a very kind person. The place is pretty much as described. It’s a basement, can’t complain. Needed to share a shower but she was accommodating and we worked out a shower schedule. And you’ll have your own toilet which is nice.

What a great place. I wanted to move in.

Very cool space. The location is perfect to travel into Baltimore and walk or Uber to wherever you want to go. I was here for a weekend wedding down in Annapolis. So it was super easy to hop on the freeway/highway and back. I managed to get some later time down in Fells Point for music and conversation with friends on Saturday night. I’ve spent quite a bit of time in Baltimore. I forgot how much I enjoy this city. More going on than I recall from my time working in and out of Baltimore.

The neighborhood is convenient to places for breakfast and dinner. There is a beverage store on the block! Parking can be tricky but obtainable. Her pets are friendly and the room is large and cozy. The entrance door has a cipher type key pad lock so no key to pick up or lose. Very easy to come and go to local places. The area is quiet for being in the city and close to the hospital and park.

The location was as advertised, clean, great amenities, great location that is walkable to nearby restaurants and harbor. If you drive, parking is street and can be tough at night. There were cute and kind pets, however the dog can have episodes of barking, if you’re sensitive to that (not at night, sleep was comfortable and quiet!). A little over two years ago I had my first Airbnb experience in the Vivaldi. Revisiting the Chamber of Tranquility this weekend was a great reminder as to why I love this app/service so much.
